Goldfish Pond

Goldfish Pond

I'm not 100% done. Or maybe I am?

I still need to clean it up and photograph it after I decide if I actually want the water splash in it or not.

In Koi (and goldfish) ponds there is a tradition / superstition that there should always be at least one black fish.

The black fish is said to attract all the bad luck and diseases away from the other fish so they can remain healthy. Kinda messed up but ok.

What is the tree on the right hiding?
a little mushroom rests on a rocky bridge the water passes under (viewable from the outside).

The background is a long, annoying story.

First I put down large black rock structures inside AND out. Then I started to tile the back of the outside... it didn't fit in (this time) with a more pseudo-natural theme.

Then I decided to start pouring epoxy for the layers of rock, sediment / soil, sand, water, sky / clouds...

I hadn't really picked realistic blue colors... How do I make that work?
Added blue to the tree's for hyper-unrealistic blue rain pouring down them...

(Driftwood was meant for small planted tanks used to culture live plants for my voracious goldfish but it turns out I get hives from ALL plants, not just above-water plants...)

The blue is still toxic though.

After placing basically everything else and pouring the water layers into the tank I decided to RE-DO the background... I couldn't get the backing off PLUS the backing was holding together where the tank CRACKED due to the heat from the epoxy curing and my heat gun...

I poured the new background layers INSIDE the glass.

Stone, Dirt/sand, lightly tinted water/sky blue...
Clear coat, clouds, clear coat to seal the clouds, clear coat the I dripped and swirled white alcohol inks into, clear coat to seal off the surface of the alcohol inks which always looks knobby and ugly unless its sealed.

Visable also are the layers of tacky raindrops falling from the clouds. I seek ideals which lead me to now having ~140 spare raindrops laying around... ugg.

Ends of the tank ~to mimic how light plays off of water ripples onto surrounding surfaces. Plus clouds, sand, dirt... etc.

The whole thing is 12" wide, 8.5" across or something. It's a 2.5 gallon fish tank. Basically inhospitable to anything but nano shrimp and fish eggs (not together). I was hatching out hand spawnings of hundreds of goldfish eggs in it.

Dozens of lillypads and flowers... (more than you see). I had planned on putting layers of ripples, depth, and splashes in the tank. I cast that aside when I put the driftwood in the tank. Might still use some. Who knows...

Many sizes of goldfish in here. Many colors and shapes of leaves, rocks, real sand and epoxy pour simulation sand... An inch at most of clear pour acting as water.
